While new energy policy has generally taken a backseat during the COVID-19 pandemic there is some light on the horizon for the development of new renewable energy projects with the government’s announcement of the Green Gas Support Scheme (GGSS) in mid-2020. Set to be introduced in autumn 2021 this new scheme will provide a new lease of life to Anaerobic Digestion for Biomethane Injection. This is the process of creating biogas through the digestion organic material such as crops and waste materials to be upgraded and injected directly into the national gas grid, helping to decarbonise the heat used in homes and businesses across the UK. Our work with Biomethane as a technology over the last 7 years in project management, feasibility, planning as well as significant experience of support schemes of this type and maintaining a close relationship with Ofgem, who are set to administer this scheme, means JHWalter are ideally situated to assist in the development of new projects of this kind. With further announcements expected over the coming weeks contact our JHWalter Energy Team for a discussion about the scheme and possible eligible projects.
